Traffic, Lead Generation and Conversions…Oh My!

Everyone wants more traffic on the internet to their websites.  Did anybody ever stop to think about what is traffic?  Well, traffic according to the dictionary is: Transportation of vehicles or goods or a flow of communication.   For the internet it would be something like this – a flow of people to your website.  Perferably a continous flow who buy.  However, people can be quite peculiar.  The sooner you understand that the better.

So the very first thing you have to consider when starting Internet Marketing is your website’s targeted traffic.  Who are these people that you want to come to your site.  What do you want them to do?  This may sound so stupid and obvious.  But it is not.  Think about it.  If you had a brick and mortar store that was 10,000 sq.ft. and you could only make money from the people you stuffed in it, what kind of people would you stuff it with?  People who are interested in your product, with lots of money, ready to buy, with proof that they do buy and don’t believe in returning things.  Okay the last one was wishful thinking.

There are hundreds of ways to drive traffic or people, to your site.  Lead generation is an art form, a system and because it involves people, can be down right frustrating until you get the hang of it.  People are illogical, irrational and emotional. 

They buy on emotion and then want to feel good about their illogical, expensive product they just bought that is going to solve their irrational psycological problem they gave themselves in the first place.  They have a problem that needs to be solved and you, the business, have the perfect solution.  How are you going to tell them that without sounding like a salesman on his last leg?  How do you make them feel that everything is about them?  Not about the payroll that you don’t have income to pay with.  And last but not least, how do you convince them that without your particular product their problem will never get solved?  Just a few more things for you to think about.

Once you start getting traffic you need to improve your conversions or the number of people who buy.  So make sure the traffic you get is good quality, highly interested with money to spend.  There are many ways of doing this as well.  It does not matter the type of business you are in.  You may just have to tweek the method a bit to fit your situation.

Increasing conversions is also the way to increase your profit.  This is the bottom line of Internet Marketing or any form of advertising.  To get there you must work smarter NOT harder.  Pull more money out of each customer that you get.  Put that traffic to work.  If they buy once, the chance is they will by again.  Got ways to do that also.

Don’t forget about your website statistics!  What statistics?  Yes.  Sorry about that, I know most people hate the numbers, the analysis, but it is very important.  Are your visitors doing what you want and how much is it really costing you to get them to do what you want.   How much did that ad really cost you.  What is your real R.O.I.?  Are you really making money or are you really losing money? Uhh…. I thought so.

‘There are so many ways to’…I know I said that a lot but is it true.  In Internet Marketing for Small Businesses you will be learning about the ‘ways to do’ and before you know it you will be making up a few new things yourself to generate traffic.  Traffic generation is a big area and it involves doing things offline as well as online, all types of media, all types of people. 

With all of these ways to do-don’t fear about not having enough time to implement them.  You will learn the system on how to do it, write your own system for your business, then outsource it or give it to an employee to do.  You don’t have to do everything.  Delagate!  You only need to write your marketing system once for each strategy, but once you’ve done that-it’s done!  You have your system and any teenager or grade school kid could do it.  Think McDonald’s.  Now you have your Marketing System in place.
